The dreaded allowance... or is it?

Kasen and I went to the CVS the other night and he had been holding on to this dollar for a while now, so he brought is wallet and was determined to buy something with HIS money.  He was looking at all the pool gear and toys and I had to let him know that all that was well over $1.  I took him to the $1 section and showed him what he could get... not many options there (I wanted so bad to get him the goggles too)!  Wouldn't ya know as soon as we walked out of the store he said, and I quote, "Mom, can you give me more dollars next time, please?"  I then saw OPPORTUNITY!

Money Money Money... Moneeey!

We had already had the talk about picking up ALL his toys each night before bed time since he got this new bed.  We got home and I told him that for every night he cleans his room, by himself, he will earn $1, and that if he saves some of that money he could buy him something bigger the next time.  He was on board!  That was 4 nights ago and you better believe that his room as been clean every night since... and without saying he couldn't do it alone!

My thought is... this is genius!  $1 is not a whole lot to us, but it sure is to him, a 4 year old!  Heck, he still loves the N64 as if it were an X Box!  He is learning many things by us doing this now.  Responsibility, saving money and spending it wisely.  And, hopefully he will stop thinking we grow our own money out back.
I wish!

I remember babysitting my little sister just about every Thursday and Saturday night.  May not have gotten cold hard cash most times, but when my Mom came home with the Dr. Martin sandals I wanted oh so bad that year or when she gave money for the mall with my friends.. that's where it came in, I knew they appreciated it.

Now, I don't plan to keep it at just $7/week.  As he gets a little older, he can start helping with a lot of other things as well.  He will get a "raise" the more responsibility he takes on.

That's about all I got for today!
